A letter comes from Taipei International Church (TIC) inviting Doris and me to come share about VEDA ministries. What a privilege! But we have things to tie up at our end before we can say yes? We have to face the problem of no lease at the Devarkonda school. Finally, the land lady extends our stay for one more academic year provided that we give an assurance in writing that we have plans to move on. We sell a piece of land that lies in the outskirts of Devarkonda town and make a down payment for an acre of land nearer to town where there is access to approach road and possible water source. We have hopes to build a school there in the coming year. We pray and accept the TIC invitation. Another letter comes from a Bruderhof community in Pennsylvania asking if we could provide a place of service for a family with VEDA for a year. The Wisers arrive just before we leave for Taiwan. We worry how they will survive the furnace of the summer heat. We leave for Taipei May 18 for ten days. We share in homes, visit places and talk non-stop about our ministry. There is a men's breakfast prayer at the American club, a women's fellowship for Doris, a house prayer meeting and plenty of small group gatherings. On two Sundays we worship at TIC. One time we meet with a Tagalog (Philipino) church. We are amazed at the keen interest shown by TIC members in our work in India. They have remarkable vision for missions. What a blessing! About eight individuals signed up to go to India in October this year. Phyllis Taylor, a forty-year teaching veteran in Taipei volunteers to instruct Matilda school teachers at Mallepally in the art of teaching. About 800 students and faculty at Christ College also express a keen interest in India mission. It is a privilege to attend an executive meeting of the FOMCIT (formation of the Mennonite churches in Taiwan) during this time. The Tatung Mennonite Church which supports our spiritul ministry is a part if FOMCIT. On the 29th of May we return to our humble work, exhilarated. God be praised! The Wisers are still there when we return. The fiery furnace in the month of May does not touch them. I am sure there is a fourth person walking with them. |
