I am copying a brief report presented to us by Mark Clement, who
is from Bruderhof community in upstate New York, and who spent five months with us.
May you enjoy reading this report:
"For the last two months my son Dwayne and I have had the privilege of working
as guest teachers at Matilda school: Dwayne at Devarkonda and I at Mallepally.
This has been a wonderful and enriching experience. The acceptance of the
teachers was invaluable. We learned many intricacies of a different education
system, and the joy, warmth and the eagerness that extends from the students is
something that we will never forget.
We have been amazed at the level of learning seen here under circumstances
that reflect the poverty characteristic of so many schools in similar settings.
Each student learns three languages and converses fluently in these languages
at a tender age. Here a third grade student is more advanced in languages
than a 9th grader in the US. If I fault at all the education system
it is that they rely more on memorization than analytical thinking.
Das and Doris have established a school that is having an important and
highly beneficial impact on children and the surrounding villagers. The fruits
of their labor in demanding circumstances will be felt for many years and well
beyond the present generation. I would encourage anyone who has means to do so
to support Matilda school financially.
1) There is a great need for monetary help in order to upgrade computers
that would enable Matilda school to equip students with the skills to face
a rapidly modernizing India.
2) Setting up and furnishing a new school being built in Devarkonda.
3) Expanding the medical program to help the poverty stricken local
population.
4) So many other projects that are so much needed here.
Once again I would like to express my gratitude that we have been able to
spend these months at Matilda school." -- Mark Clement
We had a wonderful visit with Harry and Marlene Schmidt, Clarence and Lydia
Knippel, and Jim Degeer of Abbotsford B.C. Canada, who came to visit us in the hot
month of April just at the close of the school year. They enjoyed being with us
on the evening of the school's Annual Day program "EAST
MEETS WEST" presented by our children.
This year we have over 200 new admissions into academic education
and 25 new entrants into Bindu Home, which is well beyond our capacity to accommodate. Yet
in faith we have taken them all in and thank God for entrusting us with more
responsibilities. The new school construction at Devarkonda is progressing
well after the government issued us permission for electricity connection.
Thank you for praying for Doris and helping financially during her
trial with a kidney stone which was removed in the month of May. Now she
is well and is back at Devarkonda school.
Thank you for your many prayers and for supporting us financially
to continue our projects. God bless you.
